You won't spend 20 game days just dressing your mercs up at the airport with vanilla. And JA2 is much, much more complex than any typical RPG/TBS to begin with. Easiest way to describe it is that it turns XCom into Crusader Kings 2 in terms of complexity and extra features. 1.13 adds a ton of difficulty and breaks this and that, (although adds also some quality of life changes, such as faster enemy turns). I used to play with a combo I made up but that required some tweaking of files to get them to play nicely together, [custom RNG faces mod, JA1 characters added into Merc (that might of been default or not added at the time), custom player AIM slots up to 7 or might have been 10).First time play vanilla for sure. There are out there that I have yet to try out. All of those mods bring something different into play and are each a great experience away from the default 1.13 mod. Arulco Vacations, Aimnas (the Big Map Project - it is almost completed last time I checked), Arulco Revisited. I have tried and love these mods but they are all stand alone (may require 1.13 mod already added or might come with it pre-added by the mod maker). (Like Mercs calling in back up with radios (walkie-talkies). They take all the little mods that people had made and added them into it. So I then started it and I was really impressed with how the mod had been upgraded. I for a long time though the mod had stopped being updated and was stuck on some build from about 2014 until I found out a few years latter that the site was no longer used and updated and that a One Drive file (site?) now had the latest updates. I personally mostly have used just the 1.13 mod. I am going to watch this thread to find out.
